„La Vendita di Dresda“ war einer der groessten und spektakulaersten Kunstverkaeufe im 18. Jahrhundert.
100 vornehmlich italienische Meisterwerke der Galeria Estense in Modena wurden an den saechsischen Hof verkauft.
Der Verkauf stellte für die saechsische Kunstsammlung eine immense Bereicherung dar.
Die zahlreichen Werke italienischer Kuenstler der Renaissance verhalfen der Sammlung zu europaeischen Ruhm.
Ein Verkauf der bis heute große Auswirkungen hat.

Recherchetour 2021
Vom 23. April bis 18. Mai 2021 war der Dresdner Künstler Jens Besser auf dem Eurovelo 7
zwischen Dresden und Bologna mit dem eignenen Lastenrad unterwegs.
Seine Radtour fuehrte ihn u.a. nach Regensburg, Linz, Innsbruck, Brenner, Trient, Mantua und Camposanto.
Das benutze Lastenrad hatte keine elektrische Unterstuetzung.
Der Künstler versuchte so die Strapazen eines Kunsttransportes im 18. Jahrhundert nachzuvollziehen,
indem er mit Muskelkraft die Alpen überquerte.
Zeichnungen, Fotografien und Wandbilder
Auf dem Weg recherchierte er zu Umstaenden des Transportes der Vendita di Dresda. Besser fertigte Zeichnungen, dokumentierte fotografisch den Prozess an und realisierte grossformatige, offizielle Wandbilder in Modena, Mantova und Linz. Die realisierten Wandbilder thematisieren einerseits die Umstände seiner Recherchetour, andererseits handeln sie von den verkauften Bildern.

Das Werk entstand nach der Recherchetour 2022.

Wandbild in Mantua
Das Wandbild in der Cicloofficina Errante, einem Fahrradladen in Mantua, ist als abschließendes Werk der Tour im Jahr 2021 zu verstehen. Es zeigt umfangreich die Reiseeindrücke.
La Vendita di Dresda
Das Wandbild La Vendita di Dresda entstand 2020 im Hostel San Filippo Neri in Modena. Es zeigt erste Recherchen zur Vendita di Dresda und die geplante Radtour mit Lastenrädern.
Publikation
Von auf der Radtour realisierten Wandbildern nahm Besser Papiere mit, die er zuvor anbrachte und waehrend der Bemalungen ueberspruehte. Aus den Fragmenten der realisierten Wandbilder, in Form der mitgenommenen, bespruehten, schwarzen Papiere, stellte Besser eine limitierte Publikation her. In der Publikation wird der Prozess von der Planung bis zum Abschluß der Recherchetour festgehalten. Die Papiere wurden einseitig im Siebdruck von Hand bedruckt und zu einer mehrseitigen Publikation gefaltet. Ergaenzt wurde die Publikation mit Schwarz-Weiß-Digitaldrucken die Texte und Fotos beinhalten.
‘La Vendita di Dresda’ was one of the largest and most spectacular art sales of the 18th century.
100 masterpieces, predominantly by Italian artists, from the Galeria Estense in Modena were sold to the Saxon court.
The sale represented an immense enrichment for the Saxon art collection.
The numerous works by Italian Renaissance artists helped the collection achieve European renown.
A sale whose impact is still felt today.

Research Tour 2021
From 23 April to 18 May 2021, the Dresden-based artist Jens Besser was travelling along EuroVelo 7
between Dresden and Bologna on his own cargo bike.
His cycle tour took him to Regensburg, Linz, Innsbruck, Brenner, Trento, Mantua and Camposanto, amongst other places.
The cargo bike he used had no electric assistance.
In this way, the artist sought to recreate the hardships of transporting art in the 18th century,
by crossing the Alps using only muscle power.
Drawings, photographs and murals
Along the way, he researched the circumstances surrounding the transport of the ‘Vendita di Dresda’. He produced drawings, documented the process photographically and created large-format, official murals in Modena, Mantua and Linz. The murals he created address, on the one hand, the circumstances of his research tour, and, on the other hand, the paintings that were sold.

The work was completed after the 2022 research tour.

Mural in Mantua
The mural at the Cicloofficina Errante, a bicycle shop in Mantua, is to be seen as the concluding work of the 2021 tour. It comprehensively depicts impressions from the journey.
La Vendita di Dresda
The mural La Vendita di Dresda was created in 2020 at the San Filippo Neri Hostel in Modena. It depicts initial research into the Vendita di Dresda and the planned cycle tour using cargo bikes.
Publication
Besser took with him sheets of paper from the murals created during the cycle tour, which he had previously affixed and sprayed over whilst painting. From the fragments of the completed murals – in the form of the black, sprayed sheets of paper he had taken with him – Besser produced a limited-edition publication. The publication documents the process from the planning stage through to the completion of the research tour. The sheets were screen-printed by hand on one side and folded into a multi-page publication. The publication was supplemented with black-and-white digital prints containing texts and photographs.
